some things new {03.11.19}

Hello & happy Monday! I’m trying to get back into the swing of blogging more frequently because this was a LARGE part of my identity as a new mom with Nia and I want to make it the same with Fife now. Mainly because I really do love writing & the idea of sharing my life with you {and if you haven’t noticed, it’s why my website is more a ‘lifestyle’ thing). So hopefully my cup filling helps you out as well!

Today, I thought I’d share some new things with you as a way to share what I’ve been up to lately!

1. new workout

I normally workout in the garage/sometimes park with my hubby, but yesterday I decided to try something new - a barre workout! I mentioned on Instagram stories how IG & FB definitely creep your convos because I’ve totally seen an ad in my feed after having said something… case in point with this workout!

I decided to use it for good this time and signed up for a free 30 day trial with Openfit to switch up how I’ve been moving my body. I’m going to try to commit to doing Xtend Barre for as much as I can in these next 30 days.

Because let me tell you… the one I intro’d with yesterday was a KILLER. Tiny ballet movements are no joke! Oh and a BIG side note: the reason I wanted to do a barre class is because I used to be a dancer, and I was really missing that element in my life (so much to the point that I’m actually thinking of taking some adult dance classes). It’s just what my soul and body needed. I’ll keep you updated on how my month goes (nothing like my website as an accountability partner ;).

2. Cutting coffee (well, sort of…)

So I’m one to be TOTALLY transparent with you and let you know this: my intention is to cut out coffee because I don’t like the way it makes me feels all the time. BUT, I’m human (and very sleep-deprived these days) that some days I just want an F-ing coffee (like… the past couple days over the last week). I’m pretty self-aware when it comes to caffeine and how it makes me feel so I’m using this as my barometer; if I drink a latte and I don’t feel agitated, then maybe I’ll drink another the next day. But at any point where I stop feeling ok drinking it, then it’s time to cut for a bit.

I’ve actually been playing around with a coffee alternative this past week that I can’t wait to share more on! Plus, I’ve actually been feeling more energized with it, so there might be something to the no caffeine movement ;)


3. podcast love

I don’t know about you, but I’m a HUGE podcast lover. I listen to them every single day. I wanted to share the few that I’ve been loving lately (because, yes, it does change depending on where I’m at!) in case you need some ear power:

  • The Rich Roll Podcast: this one is normally always in rotation, but sometimes I do take a break because his episodes are loooong. Because of this it can sometimes take me 2-3 days to listen to a single episode just because I don’t have the timeframe currently to sit down and listen from start to finish. But sooo worth the listen because his guests are ON point.

    Most recent episodes I’ve listened to:

  • The Highest Self Podcast (with Sahara Rose): this is a podcast I added to my rotation a few months back and I absolutely LOVE Sahara (plus added bonus, she uses doTERRA too ;). She’s an Ayurveda goddess + has some of the best guests on her podcast if you dig all things: spirituality, holistic health, nutrition & living!

Most recent episodes I’ve listened to :

  • #172 - From housewife to co-founder of a billion dollar company with Lisa Bilyeu (this one especially interested me after listening to her husband on Rich Roll!)

  • #133- Adaptogens 101 with Lopa of Rasa Koffee (third time listening because I loved it that much - this is also a hint into my no caffeine journey ;)

4. my fave (baking) recipes

If you know me, then you know I LOVE being in my kitchen making delicious plant-based foods. Here are a few recipes I am loving on basically all the time these days…

Minimalist Baker… everything! I seriously cannot get enough of them. My faves by them: 1 bowl vegan banana oat pancakes, life changing banana walnut pancakes, the best whole roasted cauliflower, and apple cider donuts (vegan & gluten free). You seriously need to check their website out if you’re looking for amazing plant-based recipes that are super easy to make!


On my site… sorry, had to give myself a little plug, but only because I actually MAKE the recipes I post here! For an easy din this week I’ll be making tempeh BLTs & have been sipping up smoothies pretty much on the daily, which is why I posted my top 5 faves here right now!

Made with Love cookbook. I absolutely love this cookbook and not just because they hail from my grandma’s hometown!! It’s a mother-daughter duo who own a bakery in Burlington, Ontario, and their cookbook is legit awesome. My faves from it: kale caesar salad, chocolate chip cookies, Buddha bowls, and their veggie burger (seriously, the best veg burger I’ve made for actually staying together).
