As the kiddos head back to school (mine is in her second week already - howwwwwwwww?!?!), I thought it would be super helpful to chat about how they can truly thrive and not just go back to school, but glow back! If you haven't realized by now, one of my main mama tools for this is essential oils, so we are going to focus on how to use them in simple + effective ways AND in different areas to help our kids out holistically in 5 ways over 5 days!!

Not only will you feel more empowered in your home + health, but we will help those kiddos THRIVE in this awesome school year. Enjoy this resource!

DAY 1: IMMUNE SUPPORT

 
 

We are starting off with the most important topic! Why??? Because I believe this is the first topic we need as we get ready to get back into the germy school environment. As we know, kids don't love to share their belongings/toys, but they do love to share their germs. So kind, right? 👐🏼 So we need to be well equipped! Today's focus is on a DIY immune booster roller blend + 2 other ways to support your immune health!

Immune booster blend:

grab a 10mL roller bottle and add the following to it:
👉🏻 3-5 drops each of on guard, frankincense, arborvitae, copaiba (last 2 completely optional)
👉🏻 top with fractionated coconut oil
👉🏻 roll on the bottoms of feet morn & night the week leading up to school and the first couple after that (the switch to just nightly before kiddos hop into bed)!

Why these oils:

👉🏻On Guard: The protective blend & when to use to help bump up the system. It smells so nice in the diffuser + used in the blend above

👉🏻Frankincense: The king of oils & amazing for supporting your cells + immune system. It's also a 'driver' oil so it will help drive the other oils deeper into the tissue!

👉🏻Arborvitae: The 'tree of life' that can live for several hundred years as it can protect itself so beautifully from bugs/nature, which is why it's so useful to support our immune systems

👉🏻Copaiba: A beautiful blend of 4 species that work synergistically together + very useful for support the immune system. It's also very relaxing!

 

2 others:

👉🏻Rose Touch: This oil is pre-diluted & supports the immune system is a beautiful way. I mentioned in the video above that I love to roll it on the back of my daughter's neck before she goes to school. She smells delicious, but on top of that we're helping her immune system stay strong AND it also promotes healthy brain activity!

👉🏻PB Assist Jr: This probiotic has 5 billion cultures from 6 different strains and is amazing for kids. Tastes just like a pixie stick but actually GOOD for their health. Becauuuuuse, 70-80% of your immune system actually resides in your gut, having your kids take something daily like this is essential. And my daughter LOVES this one (but spoiler alert: it's great for parents too - I steal them from Nia ;).

 


day 2: focus + brain support

 
 

Today we are talking about the health of our kiddos brains - a VERY important part of the glowing back to school process ;) The following are some handy tools to make sure they rock the focus department and really support their growing brains!

First up is InTune, which is also known as the focus blend. Right there you can see why it's so valuable in the routine for healthy brain activity. Give a roll on the back of the neck OR if scent is an issue (it's pretty strong!) try rolling on the bottoms of the feet before kids put on their socks and shoes!

Here's why we love it: supports over & under active brains, brings mental clarity & concentration, calming & grounding!

And then my faaaaave blend for brain activity (and I swear this makes me remember things better!)

 

staying sharp blend:

grab a 10mL empty roller bottle and add the following:

👉🏻3 drops each of: vetiver, frankincense, cedarwood, patchouli and sandalwood

👉🏻top with fractionated coconut oil

👉🏻roll on the fleshy triangular part at the top of your spine called the sub-occipital region

 

Why these oils:

👉🏻Vetiver: promotes focus, concentration, mental performance

👉🏻Cedarwood: calms the mind, support improved mental performance

👉🏻Patchouli: great for soothing nerves

👉🏻Frankincense: cellular health (regenerative), supports brain & mood, to feel grounded & safe/secure as a child

👉🏻Sandalwood: calming & relaxing

 

omegas

Another suuuuuper important aspect of brain function + growth in kids is omegas. Now, I mention in the vid above that we're a completely vegan fam, so we get our omegas from non-fish sources (if you eat fish, you can check out doTERRA's child's omega here) and the great news is that there are plenty of ways to still get in your omegas on a plant-based diet though - pinky swear promise ;) The whole food sources that I love to get omegas through are: chia, flax and hemp seeds, plus, I also like to add Flora Omega 3-6-9 oil to our smoothies (I do about a tsp per person). On top of that, we do a daily dose of Dr. Fuhrman's DHA + EPA oil blend pictured below! (It's a little pricey, but I caught it on sale once!)

And then a few fun blends to pop into the diffuser. This could be when your kids come home from school to tackle their homework, or in the morning to get them going before school starts - you choose!

day 3: sleep support

 
 

Next to immune & brain support, sleep is definitely on my list because without adequate sleep, kids are truly not thriving. Oils help support this area so beautifully, so they can rest their bodies & minds, and get the deep ZZZ's they deserve!

Our top sleep oils:

👉🏻Lavender: promotes relaxation, calming and sleep. Use in the diffuser, a few drops in an epsom salt bath, a few drops on the pillow case and/or on the bottoms of the feet before bed

👉🏻Serenity: aka the restful blend, which is a combo of oils to help assist in sleep & rest. Since it's a blend it can be placed in the diffuser on its own or test it out on the bottoms of the feet!

👉🏻Balance: aka the grounding blend, is another blend of oils that help you feel relaxed & rooted. It smells divine in the diffuser (on own or pair it with lavender/serenity), or try rubbing into the bottoms of the feet

👉🏻Roman Chamomile: Is calming and relaxing, plus smells amazing! Put in the diffuser (paired with lavender is awesome) and/or on the bottoms of the feet before bed. Plus, this is one of those amazingly mild oils that you can use on infants too, so it's great for all ages

👉🏻Vetiver: Is the next level sleep support. If you find lavender and/or serenity aren't working for you, then this is my 'go to.' It comes from the vetiver root, and right there you can see that it's very... grounding ;) Add a couple drops to the diffuser (blends nicely with roman chamomile) and/or put a drop on the bottoms of the feet. It's VERY sappy though, so it can take a while to exit the bottle!

👉🏻Juniper Berry: This oil is amazing for helping out kids that have bad dreams. Use in the diffuser or test out the spray below!

 

zen blend sleep spray:

grab a 2oz glass spray bottle and add the following...

👉🏻2 drops each: frankincense, juniper berry, lavender & wild orange then top with water

👉🏻shake before using and spritz on bedding 10-30 mins before calling it a night

day 4: skin + hair support

 
 

Next topic up is skin + hair because this is MIGHTY important. As a mom who has had a child that has gone through ALL the skin conditions, I could not be more thankful for oils in this area.

top oils for skin + hair:

👉🏻Melaleuca/Tea Tree: Is antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic, so it comes in SO handy for relieving the body from issues that pop up + it's one of the top cleansing oils. We like to use it on the skin directly (for kiddos dilute 1 drop tea tree in 1 tsp - 1 tbsp fractionated coconut oil) where the problem arises. If it's a full body issue, pop them in the bath with 1/2 cup epsom salts + a few drops of essential oils & let them hang out for 20 mins! Literally think of any skin issue and this has you covered!

👉🏻Lavender: Is antifungal, anti-infectious, antimicrobial, and antiseptic. It holds the POWAH to soothing the skin and is super beneficial for regeneration of skin cells (it's why it's my fave tool for sunburns). This is why it's a great tool for the kiddos + it's one of the gentlest oils to use on young ones. You can dilute down or use 'neatly' (aka undiluted) on the skin - the choice is up to you. I choose diluting down because as you'll see in this vid, there's no harm to doing it (the effectiveness of the oils stays the same)! Same as with Tea Tree, just apply on the location of the issues and/or use in the bath (this will also help calm + relax them before bed...win win!).

👉🏻Geranium: Is a skin beautifying oil and why I love talking about it for this topic. It's great on both dry and sensitive skin + can help with issues that pop, as well. It's a beautiful one to pair with Lavender in the bath to not only help the skin, but really soothe & support it. It's also antibacterial & antiseptic!

 

itchy scalp diy spray:

grab a 2oz glass spray bottle and add the following to it...

👉🏻4 drops melaleuca/tea tree, 3 drops geranium, 3 drops eucalyptus

👉🏻top with water

👉🏻shake & spray on the hair before heading out the door to school - you can proactively do this each day before school so if & when that dreaded notice does come home, you are on it!


day 5: emotional support

 
 

And we finally come to the last topic in this series that is ALL about those moods & emotions, which we know as parents, kids are GREAT at expressing. This is THE area that I use my oils in every.single.day. I never thought I would use them this much to support this area, but you are going to find SO much value for you + your little ones in having these tools to support the full range of emotions that littles ones can go through (sometimes they go through all the emotions in as little as a 5 min span 🙃)

top oils for mood + emotions:

👉🏻Peace: aka the reassuring blend is a combo of very rooting & grounding oils to help reassure you that it's all going to be ok (can we say perfect for little bodies?!?!). I like to take the Touch (aka pre-diluted) version and have my daughter roll it on her wrists. It's beautiful before bedtime (if that's when emotions are running high and/or to help relax them for the night) or you can use before or after school - depending on when they need the support!

👉🏻Citruses: I kept this category open, but my two faves when it comes to emotional well-being for kiddos are Wild Orange and Citrus Bliss. Both help to lift their spirits, especially if sadness is on the menu. Give them a deep inhale from your cupped hands (just place a drop of oil in your hands, rub together, then let them breathe it in)

👉🏻Lavender: Helps calm and relax away anxiousness and help level out the mood playing field. It is especially awesome if you pair with Wild Orange (mentioned above) to relieve any any emotions. You can do a drop of each in the hands and get them to breathe it in. Nothing spells 'calm down' like citrus + lavender together. And lavender is one of those oils that has a ton of research on it's effectiveness to calm in patient settings too (take a look for yourself here)!

👉🏻Neroli: Is one of my new faves for helping with emotions. It not only helps shift your little ones to a positive mood, but can help reduce feelings of anxiousness & stress. Since it already comes pre-diluted it's perfect for having your kiddos roll on the wrists then breathe it in. I also like doing down the back of the neck and bottoms of the feet

👉🏻Balance: aka the grounding blend has very earthy and root oils, and I think provides a great connectedness to kids feeling emotional well while going back to school. Since it is an earthy oil, it's great on the bottoms of the feet, or dab on the wrists or behind the ears before heading out the door for school.
